Features

Everything Qovern governs in your Qlik Cloud.

Section Access is one part of it. The rest covers space access, inventory, history and your tenant's consumption.

  • Space access

Grant, change and revoke access for people and groups to shared and managed spaces, using Qlik's own roles, up to 50 at a time.

  • Section Access

Rules by email or IdP group, with a reduction field and OMIT, validated before saving. Qovern publishes the file, triggers the reload and keeps every version.

  • Pro and up

    Roles and app owners

Administrator, manager and reader. Managers only edit the apps assigned to them, and readers can only view.

  • Inventory and usage

Your tenant's apps, scripts, data flows, spaces and users, with the last reload and who actually opened each app, not counting automated opens.

  • History of every app

What happened in Qlik (creation, copy, publishing, script edits, deletion and reloads) plus the history of Section Access rules, publications and reloads.

  • Pro and up

    Automatic documentation

Script tabs, tables, fields, data sources and variables, plus sheets and master measures and dimensions. Each run becomes a version, ready to print or save as PDF.

  • Environment and consumption

Data for Analysis, monthly reload quota, data load health and app size per space, with each space's item list exportable as CSV.

  • Pro and up

    Email alerts

Consumption and reload quota nearing the limit, failed reloads, apps without data loads, access summaries and new people in Qlik, daily or weekly.

  • Audit trail

Who did what, when, and the before and after of every change, with no editing or deletion. On Enterprise, the audit trail also exports to CSV.

How it works

From a connected tenant to governance in four steps.

Qovern reads from and writes to Qlik through your tenant's M2M client. Nothing runs in the browser, and nothing changes in Qlik without going to the audit trail.

  1. 01

    Connect

Register your tenant's OAuth M2M client. The secret is encrypted and never goes through the browser.

  2. 02

    Sync

Apps, spaces and users come into Qovern. Opens, reloads and new people update on their own in the background.

  3. 03

    Govern

Grant access to spaces and edit Section Access rules. Qovern validates them, publishes to Qlik and triggers the reload.

  4. 04

    Follow up

The audit trail, app history, documentation and email alerts show what changed and what needs attention.

Frequently asked questions

What does Qovern offer?

Qovern is a governance platform for Qlik Cloud. It controls who accesses each space, using Qlik's own roles and in bulk, and what each person sees inside each app, with Section Access rules kept outside the load script. It also shows your tenant's inventory (apps, spaces, users and who opened each app), each app's history, your Qlik consumption and documentation generated from the script, and emails you when something needs attention. Everything goes to the audit trail, with no editing or deletion, and Qlik credentials are encrypted and kept separate per customer.

Does Qovern replace Qlik's Section Access?

No. It keeps the rules outside the load script, generates the Section Access file, publishes it to your Qlik Cloud and triggers the reload. Qlik keeps enforcing the security.

Which Qlik edition can I use?

Qovern works with the whole Qlik cloud ecosystem: Qlik Sense Business, Qlik Sense Enterprise SaaS and Qlik Cloud Data Analytics (QCDA). The only difference is the Data for Analysis indicator, which shows how much of Qlik's storage and processing capacity has been used. It only appears on QCDA, because the other licenses don't have that limit.

How do alerts work?

The administrator picks which alerts to turn on, the threshold, the frequency (daily or weekly) and who on the team gets the email. There are alerts for Data for Analysis and reload quota nearing the limit, failed reloads, apps with no data load for more than a few days, access summaries and new people in Qlik. Alerts are part of the Pro and Enterprise plans.

Does Qovern document my apps?

Yes, on the Pro and Enterprise plans. Documentation comes from the app's script and model: tabs, tables, fields, data sources, variables, sheets and master measures and dimensions. Each run is saved as a version that only people with access to the customer's Qovern can open, and it can be printed or saved as PDF.

Who can change the rules?

Administrators can change everything, managers only the apps assigned to them, and readers can only view. Every change is recorded in the audit trail.

Are my Qlik credentials safe?

Qovern uses an OAuth M2M client from your tenant, with the secret encrypted in the database. No credential goes through the browser.
